How do you wink at an orange?

2011 was year of the Rabbit,  2012 the grand Dragon. 

Animals come and go, but oranges are here to stay. We whip out a pair of mandarins when we visit someone at home, we hand them out when we exchange ang pows and good tidings of fortune and health, we slurp on their juiciness as the obligatory Taiwan variety shows play out on TV.

Oranges ARE chinese new year.

So I decided to make orange-fashioned pops to usher in the brand new Year of the Dragon. Plus their naturally round shapes made them perfect pop material.

A friend in HK ordered orange pops for her family here. She sends them orange and CNY goodies every year, and she loved the idea of giving these oranges with a twist.

Granny and the whole family had a blast! 

Aunt said she couldn't beat to bite into their faces,  Daddy was highly amused with their expressions as he drove them home in the car. 

This one was for the kids!

This friend has been a precious part of my pops journey, supporting and encouraging unconditionally.

My new year has been blissfully blessed with wonderful people like her, I hope yours will be as auspiciously gifted.

Stars on trees.. it's Christmas!

My favourite time of the year - Christmas!

It's usually quite a lovely, busy time with church, friends, family. Eating, catching up, spending time, connecting with those we love.

There's also a great deal of excitement tearing open lovingly-wrapped parcels, some oddly shaped, holding mystery cheer ... and sometimes getting strange gifts you have no idea what to do with.

No matter, good intentions were there, Christmas cheer all round.

This is a back-tracked post as you can tell, Christmas 2011.

I took on a bit more than I could chew, with quite a few Christmas pop orders. Drove me a little nuts, I got really, really ill by the time Christmas came round. But I guess no better way than to dive right in, and paddle like there's no tomorrow.

These Christmas trees are one of my favourit-est and most popular pops, I had such fun doing them (aside from the horrendous fever and flu I caught from the lack of rest, ugh).

I started off with small confetti stars atop the trees, but somehow they just didn't have that special oomph I wanted.

I shopped around, trawled sweet sections in malls, and found the perfect stars you see here - from Candilicious!

I had an army of trees invading the house, they were everywhere. Tables, on top of the stoves, in the ovens, on the shelves. I didn't see my table top for a good 2 weeks.

It was quite a bit of effort bagging, tagging, ribboning each of these little trees, but I do so love how they look in the end.

Love the tiny green trees against the rich chocolate brown!

These little babies were quicker to do. I found these adorable green trees at the baking shop a little while ago, and was waiting for the right pop to use them on. 

And I found a home for them here. 

In case you're wondering... the Christmas trees took a lot more time to do, and would cost a little more than simpler round pops with the trees like these.

Happy 1 month, Megan!

My posts will serve as a form of photo gallery, to give you ideas and let you imagine when cake pops can pop up in your life.

This was one of my first proper cake pop creations, for a baby shower last year.

Baby Megan will probably never ever know she had baby pops at her shower, but her mommy and daddy were quite delighted!

Naturally the ladies did most of the oohing and ahhing (both over Baby Megan and the cake pops) at the party, but the pops were snagged and gobbled by everyone.

There were none left by the time some of the later guests arrived.

Magic in the kitchen... this is how cake pops start!

Finally made some time to get the blog going, it's long overdue!

Welcome to Petite Pops...

I wanted to start this little venture of happiness with cake pops, and the brand new year was the perfect time.

Life is just too short not to have some fun and laugh while you can... seize the time when you're able, willing, and ready.

I'd been dithering quite a bit on starting Petite Pops... thinking, wondering, imagining.

And now's my time.

Petite Pops is where I make cake pops, with the aim of making your day dance a little.

What exactly are cake pops then?

The Petite Pops definition says: little oodles of fun that put a smile on your face!
Ok ok... that may not be a satisfactory answer to some.

Let's give it another try.

Cake Pops: little bites of cake on a stick, dressed up in the cutest designs, any way you can imagine. Kinda like a cakey-lollipop. But you bite it, not lick it.

Right... what's the deal with cake pops?
Try looking at a well done cake pop and not smiling... wasn't easy, was it?

I've tested them on nieces, nephews, friends' kids - and yes, even adults - girlfriends, boyfriends, sister, cousins, co-workers, neighbours, anyone I can get hold of. They've all given the 'aye' and loved the pops.

They make great gifts, and moms love giving them out to kids at parties cuz there's none of that hassle of cake cutting and plating, cream and mess galore.

Pick up a pop, hand it to desired friend or kid. Watch their intrigue as they turn it, poke it, bite it, lick it. Done deal, no cleaning up to do. It's great fun.
